Whats wrong with my gerbil?!?

Okay so I was gonna hold her and so I went to her cage and I noticed only one of her eyes was open...and the other one was closed. obviously. so i thought maybe she just woke up and she was way tired but then she started walkin around...and her eye stayed closed. what do i do?!!? it kinda looks like some liquid redish-brown crap is dried up at the front of her closed eye...but i cant tell. my bro suggested just opening her eye, but i am kinda queezzzyyy about these things..i dont wanna touch her eye!!!!! lol so wtf is going on! and what do i do??
